Skiathos

The cosmopolitan island in Sporades. We offer a selection of 4 star boutique hotels, traditional beachfront guest houses and quality villas

About Skiathos

Skiáthos, the most cosmopolitan island in northern Sporades, is truly a paradise on Earth, with lush pine forests and crystal-clear azure waters.

Skiathos is one of the easiest Greek islands to reach, and one of the most rewarding for sunseekers, families and first-time visitors. With golden-sand beaches, lively nightlife and a green, walkable interior, it packs a lot into a small space. Elena’s Skiathos travel tips help you make the most of the island’s charm – from picking the right beach for your mood, to timing your visit around ferry connections or quiet shoulder-season getaways. It pairs well with family travel, but also works beautifully as part of a short break itinerary. Add a longer stop in Skopelos for contrast or bookend the trip with a night in Athens.

It’s not hard to see why, with more than 60 beautifully cleaned beaches lapped by an almost Caribbean-coloured sea, plus a lushly green backdrop inland, a busy yacht marina and the traditional local caique-building industry.

Nature lovers will be thrilled by the 25 well signposted walking routes and trails which are 197-km long and pass through some of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of the island.

Despite the rapid growth in tourism here in recent decades, the island is still picturesque and unspoilt, blessed with glorious sandy beaches.

The most famous is Koukounariés, which has been declared the third most beautiful beach in the Mediterranean.

When you add in its bustling nightlife, it is only natural that the island attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Strolling around Skiathos town

Skiathos was the birthplace of famous 19th-century Greek novelist and short-story writer Alexandros Papadiamantis, who is looked on as the father of modern Greek literature, and whose writings draw upon the hard lives of the islanders he grew up with.

His plain whitewashed 19th century house is now a small and charming museum in Skiathos town with books, paintings and photos of the author and his family.

“I want you to know, you have been wonderful and extremely helpful.

You are very professional at what you do and all I can say, I hope to meet you someday and keep up the good work.

Thank you very much for all your assistance.”

Island Hopping

Skiathos belongs to the complex of Sporades Islands: Skyros, Alonissos, Skiathos, Skopelos. This makes it an ideal base for island hopping during your holiday (ferry connections via Kimi in Evia with Alonissos and Skopelos).
